Coastal and Wolds SSA Football and Netball Finals Y9 and Y11

Coastal Partnership Schools take home the SSA Football Silverware and Wolds Partnership the Netball trophies.

Cordeaux school recently hosted the Coastal & Wolds SSA Y9 and Y11 Football and Netball finals.

The crisp November afternoon saw teams from Skegness Grammar, Monks Dyke (Y11 Football), John Spendluffe and Monks Dyke (Y9 Football), Skegness Grammar and Monks Dyke (Y11 Netball) and Skegness Grammar and Caistor (Y9 Netball) compete for the SSA trophies.

Each team were of course already winners having beaten off all other opponents in their SSP leagues but this was to find the best of the best.

Both Football matches were very close with several chances at either end but superb defence in both age groups meant finding the back of the net was a rare event. The boys from John Spendluffe Alford - being undefeated in their league carried on their winning ways by taking victory 3 goals to one over Monks Dyke.

Monks Dyke Y11 footballers put up a fantastic battle in their match against Skegness but also came away empty handed as their opponents team work produce two superb goals to end the match 2-0.

The Y11 girls from Monks Dyke had a different story to tell. Although slow to start and fitness levels dipping in the last quarter they produced some superb passing moves in to their shooters who put away their chances to leave the Skegness girls wondering what they had to do to stop them. Skegness had their moments during the match with perhaps their best quarter being the last one which they won by a single goal. A final score line of meant the Monks Dyke girls were worthy champions.

The Y9 netball match was again slow to get off the ground with only one goal the difference between the two sides at end of the first quarter. Caistor then decided to up their game and with some quite outstanding shooting took an unassailable lead from there on in. Skegness at times dominated the centre court but circle play both in defence and attack could not quite match the quality of play from the Caistor girls.

Caistor have also won a place in the County U14 Netball finals on Saturday so we wish them luck in their attempt to be County Champions.
