Badminton Tournament

Inaugural BADMINTON tournament declared a "smashing" success

The first badminton tournament since the formation of the Caostal & Wolds School Sports Association was confirmed a smashing success. Nine teams of under 14 and under 16 boys played 64 matches in a two hour badminton extravaganza. Each squad of four played two doubles and two singles matches on a round robin basis with the winners being the squad with the most games won. Three games seperated the top two schools in the U14 contest with Skegness Grammar edging Monks' Dyke into second place 15 wins to 12. De Aston U14 boys took 8 games, Spilsby A 5 games and although Spilsby B did not manage to win a game six of their games went to within four points and three to just one point. In the under 16 section the boys from Monks' Dyke reversed the U14 result and took the winners trophy by just one game over Skegness Grammar -by 10 games to 9. Lady Jane Franklin school finished third with 4 games and Spilsby won one. Although the winners will not progress further this year, the Competition Manager, Paula Hill stated that as the event had proved so popular next year winners would qualify for the county round of the Centre Parcs national tournament and extra competitions or even a league would be provided locally.
