Y7 Netball

Rain puts a dampner on the Y7 tournament but the girls shine!

The Y7 Coastal and Wolds SSA Netball tournament was played on a very damp Monday evening. This was the first of the light nights after our weekend clock change but the rain made the evening dull and miserable.

Things brightened up however when matches got underway.

Undeterred by the slippery courts and sometimes heavy rain these young netballers showed that they were going to compete no matter what the conditions.

Nine teams from seven schools took part in two leagues each playing all others.

At the semi final stage an unbeaten Horncastle A realised they would have to play their B team for a place in the final. Caistor Grammar - also unbeaten had to compete for their place in the final by taking on the young ladies from King Edwards, Louth.

After two rather close semis Horncastle A played Caistor Grammar for the trophy. This game highlighted the skill that these young 12 year olds have already achieved and some fine passing down the court lead to superb goals from both teams with missed shots picked up elegently by strong defence. An end to end game but Horncastle managed to take and hold onto a lead into the final moments.

Horncastle A 5 Caistor Grammar 2

Thanks go to Monks Dyke school for the use of the facility and to players and their teachers who umpired for making such a super competition.

The U13 and U15 tournament will be on 24th April 2010 at St Clements College, Skegness 9am to 12 noon.
