The girls however thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon at the picturesque grounds of Caistor Cricket Club.

Each team played the other three with matches superbly officiated by Wes Allison and six of his under 15 cricketers who had kindly been allowed out from Caistor Yarborough and Grammar schools.

Matches were played in great spirit and with much gusto. The sound of leather on willow is replaced by latex on plastic as the kwik cricket equipment is modified for junior use but still the fours and sixes rang out.

The fielding was a little lax at times and some bowlers struggled with getting the ball on target but then again some glimpses of brilliance proved that we may be looking at a Charlotte Edwards or Aaron Brindle of the future.

The last game of the day became the decider as North Somercotes (unbeaten so far) took on the Grasby team (also unbeaten).

Somercotes batted first and notched up runs at a steady pace only losing four wickets during the innings. Grasby matched their oppositions score almost to the letter during the first six overs but then Grasby played their secret weapons - their last pairing. These girls hit 18 off the 12 balls with no loss of wicket and secured a win for Grasby by 12 runs.

Grasby will now represent The Wolds SSP at the County Final in June. We wish them the very best of luck.

Thanks go to Caistor Cricket Club for permitting the use of the ground and the pavilion.

This is the first time in netball that there has been an opportunity to go through to a final on this level and it was a great opportunity to promote netball in schools.

Having successfully beaten off all opposition in their SSP League Skegness Grammar School year 10 girls took on the Wolds SSP league winners Monks Dyke. Although the final score shows the Monks Dyke girls dominating every quarter to the credit of the Skegness Grammar girls they never gave up and doggedly fought to the end.

Monks Dyke stormed into a 8 - 1 lead after the first quarter and although lapsed a little in the second allowing Skegness to creep back (12 - 4) once again they kicked in for the last two quarters taking the game 28 - 7.

In the younger age group the two teams from Caistor Grammar School and John Spendluffe School Alford followed much the same pattern as the year 10 girls.

The Wolds SSP representatives were slick and sharp for the first two quarters scoring 9 goals in each and denying the Spendluffe girls the opportunity to shoot. Half time score 18 - 1.

Caistor became lax in the third quarter only scoring two goals with Spendluffe adding another to their tally. The final score after 40 minutes 26 - 2 to Caistor.

Congratulations to the winning teams but also to the runners up who put up a brave fight.

Skegness Grammar were also the defeated team in the Y8 SSA Football Final played in the glorious setting of London Road Sports Ground Louth.

Having met Caistor Grammar this year in the knock out Cup and losing 8 -1 the boys from Skegness were determined to put up a closer fight this time. End to end play, smart interceptions and nifty footwork by both teams kept the spectators in full voice. A final score of 4 - 0 to Caistor Grammar sent them home victorious with the Skegness team leaving the pitch with heads held high knowing they had reduced their previous scoreline and matched the Grammar throughout much of the game.

The year 10 final between Skegness Grammar School and Monks Dyke, Louth was another spectacular battle. Excellent play by the attack and superb defence kept the spectators enthused with goals coming thick and fast as tactics paid off.

Last years champions Skegness had to relinquish their title as the Monks Dyke boys took the game 4 - 2.

Caistor Grammar students umpired and students from Caistor Yarborough organised the event and lead the warm ups.

It took a little while for most of the youngsters to get used to playing on a full sized netball court but the quality of play improved as the tournament progressed and the enthusiasm from the teams was a pleasure to watch.

In the High 5 netball game, player positions are rotated every game therefore the players all have a chance to shoot, defend and play a centre court position.

The crisp November afternoon saw teams from Skegness Grammar, Monks Dyke (Y11 Football), John Spendluffe and Monks Dyke (Y9 Football), Skegness Grammar and Monks Dyke (Y11 Netball) and Skegness Grammar and Caistor (Y9 Netball) compete for the SSA trophies.

Each team were of course already winners having beaten off all other opponents in their SSP leagues but this was to find the best of the best.

Both Football matches were very close with several chances at either end but superb defence in both age groups meant finding the back of the net was a rare event. The boys from John Spendluffe Alford - being undefeated in their league carried on their winning ways by taking victory 3 goals to one over Monks Dyke.

Monks Dyke Y11 footballers put up a fantastic battle in their match against Skegness but also came away empty handed as their opponents team work produce two superb goals to end the match 2-0.

The Y11 girls from Monks Dyke had a different story to tell. Although slow to start and fitness levels dipping in the last quarter they produced some superb passing moves in to their shooters who put away their chances to leave the Skegness girls wondering what they had to do to stop them. Skegness had their moments during the match with perhaps their best quarter being the last one which they won by a single goal. A final score line of meant the Monks Dyke girls were worthy champions.

The Y9 netball match was again slow to get off the ground with only one goal the difference between the two sides at end of the first quarter. Caistor then decided to up their game and with some quite outstanding shooting took an unassailable lead from there on in. Skegness at times dominated the centre court but circle play both in defence and attack could not quite match the quality of play from the Caistor girls.

Caistor have also won a place in the County U14 Netball finals on Saturday so we wish them luck in their attempt to be County Champions.

A fantastic time was had by all who attended this Caistor and De Aston cluster tennis tournament for year 3 and year 4 children.

The event was organised by Joy and John Purkiss and held at the fantastic facilities of Tealby Tennis Club.

Trained leaders from Caistor Grammar and De Aston schools officiated. Even the weather was superb.

Teams consisted of 2 girls and 2 boys who were seeded and played the appropriate seeds from all other schools.

Schools competing were Osgodby, Kelsey, Market Rasen, Grasby and Legsby.

The competition was tight with games scored up to 10 points.

The overall winners came from Kelsey School who won 17 matches and will progress through to the County round later on in the year.

It was so close that the 3 teams who came 2nd all winning 11 matches could not be separated even when counting back to the number of individual points won (a massive 153)!

These teams were Grasby, Legsby and Osgodby Green.

With their sights on a place in the County Final footballers from North Cockerington, Holton le Clay, St. Michaels, Lacey Gardens and Theddlethorpe converged on the tranquil setting of the London Road ground in Louth on a warm October afternoon.

Immaculate pitches and spectator support made for some excellent, hard fought games which ran to the wire as the results from the last game played determined the winners in both sections.

Lacey Gardens girls were unbeaten winners although a goal in the final minute of the last game of the day secured them the win.

Holton le Clay boys only needed a draw from their last match to clinch the trophy but the oppositon from North Cockerington proved the stronger team and Holton went down 2-1 leaving St. Michaels to win the league by one point and therefore go to represent the Wolds School Sport Partnership at the County Finals.

The County Finals will be held at Burgh le Marsh on 30th January 2010 (boys) and 6th February 2010 (girls)

The year 7 girls from Caistor won all their games, albeit by only one rounder in the last match against a strong Sleaford High School team. This left the spectators on a knife edge as with just three balls to go one rounder was required to clinch the silverware.

With some strategic placing of the ball and superb sprinting the Caistor girls managed the win with a ball to spare.

Horncastle had two teams through to the final - representing year 8 and year 9. This final should have taken place in July but due to rain the event was postponed to what turned out to be a gloriously hot September.

The weather was a positive for Horncastle but unfortunately the year 9 team was depleted somewhat by other activities taking place which some of the squad had to attend. Nevertheless the team pulled together and played some excellent rounders and finished third overall. The strength of the year 8 team however over awed the opposition and the girls came away worthy winners.

We look forward to seeing the year 7 and year 8 girls defend their trophy in the summer term.
